On My Skin Care

I recently finished the book Skin Rules, and while most of the information wasn't anything new, I did learn a lot about protecting your skin from the sun.  It also got me thinking about how much my skin care routine has changed over the years.  I thought I'd share mine, and I'm curious to hear what your routine looks like!

Makeup Removal:

Physician's Formula Organic Wear Makeup Remover
I've used a variety make makeup removers, but this is what I've been using lately.  It does the job pretty well without stinging my eyes.  I think after this is used up I'll just go back to using water since I'm using a lot of organic makeup now that comes off easily!

Cleanser:

I've been using Noxzema for over a year now and love it.  It gets my skin nice and clean and feeling great.  It's the perfect amount of cleansing and moisturizing for me, and I use it every morning and evening.

Sunscreen:

I put this on every morning, whether I'm in direct sunlight or not.  It's a great product that's nice and light, my skin hasn't broken out using it, and it doesn't make my face oily.  Total win in my book. :-)

Moisturizer:
I picked this up after finishing Skin Rules because it has an SPF in it.  I really love this; it protects my skin, provides just enough moisture, and evens out my skin tone quite nicely.  I don't use it every day because my skin gets oily with too much moisturizer, but when I do, it's great. :-)

When I need a little moisture right before bed, this is what I reach for.  I love all things Burt's Bees, and this is no exception.  Great product.

Exfoliation:
I'm still on the fence as to whether this actually works.  I bought it after hearing such amazing things about the Clarasonic because it was cheaper.  Sometimes I feel like my wash cloth does a better job at exfoliating than this does, but I like to use it when a wash cloth isn't readily available.

Baking Soda
Yes, baking soda.  Use 1 tablespoon, and mix with enough water to make a paste.  Rub on face.  Repeat once a week for baby soft skin (no joke).

So that's my super simple skin care routine!  It usually takes me about 5-10 minutes every morning and evening, and as long as I keep it up, my skin stays (mostly) clear. :-)

What does your skin care routine look like?

A Few Things I Wore Recently

Well hello! :-)  Now that you've seen everything I've worn the last 2 weeks, let's take a peek at what I've worn more recently, shall we?

I have about half a dozen things in my closet that I hadn't worn yet, so this week I made an effort to do so.  Most of them were relatively new, but a few got lost in the move and finally were found again!

Saturday: Francesca's Dress ($14)
Pamida Cardi; Thrifted Belt ($2); Gap Flats (clearance, $12); Fair Trade Necklace via Uniquely Yours ($16)

Ok, so this is new. I'd never been in a Francesca's Collection before our trip, but I loved it! I could have bought the whole store, but instead walked out with this dress and a pair of earrings.

Monday: Vintage Pink Skirt ($4)
Polka Dot Top via Burlington ($7); Vintage Necklace (was Grandma's); Thrifted Cardi; So Flats via Kohl's ($9)

A few of the items I had were things I bought with my shop in mind and decided to keep for myself, this skirt being one of them.  Best thing about this skirt? Pockets. :-)  It might still need a hem, but I love the color and the adorable buttons.

Tuesday: Floral rue21 Dress ($9)
Thrifted Belt ($2); F21 Leggings ($5); Wanted Boots via The Shoe Dept. ($20)

I just got this dress when were were in Colorado.  I love the print and the cut, and was eager to wear it to get my hair cut on Tuesday.

I'm still playing around with how I want to do outfit posts, so bear with me!  Not sure if I want to do a whole week, or 3 at a time or...something else.  We'll just wait and see. :-)

What to Wear to Colorado

So I thought I'd just post all of my Colorado outfits at once!  The weather was pretty nice while we were there.  I packed a variety of things because the original forecast was for rain, but I know that can change in an instant.  Temps were mostly in the 50s and 60s during our visit, with very little rain.

Day 1: Sightseeing around Mount Garfield, shopping, finding my husband's things in my MIL's house.
Sears Top; Thrifted Shorts ($1.50); Gap City Flats ($20)

Day 2: Breakfast out at Enstrom's, Shopping in the huge Mesa Mall, hanging out with the in-laws at home.
Hot Topic Tee (gifted); Relativity Jacket via Consignment ($15); Old Navy Maxi Skirt ($11); Walmart Wedge Sandals ($10)

Day 3: Church, visit to the Western Colorado Botanical Gardens, dinner out at Golden Corral (my first time, yum!)
Thrifted Dress ($6); Old Navy Cardi ($10); Necklace by CCaria (sale, $13); Wanted Boots via The Shoe Dept ($20)

Day 4: Gift shopping in downtown Grand Junction, lunch out at Sonic (I might be weird, but I LOVE Sonic! I look forward to eating there when we go out west. :-))
Sidenote: Someone actually searched "denim skirt boots" and landed on my blog. To which I thought, "why haven't I done that yet?!"
JC Penney Striped Top (clearance, $4); Walmart Scarf ($2.50); Self-made Denim Skirt; Wanted Boots via the Shoe Dept. ($20)

We had such a great time in Colorado!  It was great to experience some warm weather for a few days and I love seeing the mountains.  Time with the in-laws is always a blessing too. :-)

What to Wear on a Road Trip

What to wear when you're spending hours at a time in a car...what a question.  Comfort is always my top priority, and I managed to come up with a few outfits that were super comfy but still looked cute!

A few tips:
  • Layers!  The weather can change so much from place to place, you want to be able to take things off if you need to.
  • Comfortable fabrics!  I opted for a lot of cotton blends on this trip, and it was great.  The jersey cotton I wore a lot of didn't wrinkle easily either, so I felt fresh all day.

I wore this outfit both on the trip out and the trip back (once with leggings).  The dress made for a really comfy, easy to wear outfit.
Dress: JC Penney ($20); Gap City Flats ($10); Old Navy Bag (clearance, $7)

Another great jersey skirt (sorry for the terrible photo).  I also wore this with a blue tee and brown sandals.
Sears Floral Top; Relativity Jacket via Consignment ($15); Old Navy Fold-Over Skirt ($15); Wanted Boots via The Shoe Dept. ($20)

Another bad photo...but you're getting the idea, right? :-)
Target Cardi ($10); Thrifted Striped Top ($3); Self-made Skirt; Gap City Flats ($15)

I'll be posting what I wore while were were actually in Colorado in a few days! :-)

What are your favorite things to wear while traveling?

My Button!

I finally figured out how to make my own blog button! I'm super proud of myself and couldn't wait to share.  I finally found a tutorial that made sense to me! You can find it here.

So grab away! I might just have to start grabbing other people buttons too, now that I know what this is about... :-)

{Photo Diary} Colorado and Back

This is the second trip I've ever made to Colorado, and it's quickly becoming one of my favorite travel destinations.  I got to see a lot more of the state this time since we drove (last time we flew), and my in-laws live on the western side of the state (almost to Utah, in fact!).

Last time we were here was September, so there wasn't much snow on the Mountains.  Snow has never looked more lovely.
Mount Garfield
The yummiest place in Colorado.
Pomegranates, at the Western Colorado Botanical Gardens.

One of the many places we stopped on the way back.
I loved this ad for the Pony Express.
At the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium. So much fun, definitely stop if you're ever in Dubuque, Iowa!
Us at Mount Garfield.
We had such an amazing time on this trip.  Probably the most relaxing trip we've ever taken as a couple.  It was a fabulous opportunity to talk and just reconnect while we escaped from the stress of job searching.  We'll probably never have so much time to do something like this again, so I'm so glad we took this opportunity!

Blogging Thoughts

I've had a lot of time to think over the last few weeks while we were traveling, and part of those thoughts have been about this blog.  I'd like to make a few changes, but I'm not sure what that's gonna look like yet.  So here's what I'm thinking...

This blog has always felt a little vain and self-centered (I mean, the main thing I do is post pictures of myself!).  I knew even when I started that I wouldn't be style blogging forever, I just didn't think it would come this soon. I'm at the point where I'm really happy with my wardrobe and personal style, and this blog has played a huge part in that, so I'm glad I did it.  And I don't want to quit totally, just change things up a bit so it's not constant photos of me, me, me.

The problem with that is: what do I blog about if I'm not blogging my outfits?  I'm not especially witty, nor do I really want to blog about personal things like my marriage or family on the internet.  I LOVE getting comments that say things like "this post has helped me realize {insert whatever here} about my style...thank you!"  Posts like that are what I want to keep doing.

I don't always get many comments or feedback on my posts, so it's really hard to gauge what people want to see more of or what would be helpful.  So I'm asking...what do you want to see?  What are some pasts posts that you've really liked or found helpful?  What haven't I done yet that you'd like to see?  What have you really hated?  Any and all feedback would be great! :-)

What I will probably keep (based on past feedback):

  • Free Stuff Friday
  • Recipes (occasionally, maybe like every other week?)
  • A weekly roundup of any outfit photos I have.  I probably won't be doing any more posts of just one outfit, unless it's part of a challenge like Everybody, Everywear.
  • I would LOVE to do more guest posts (weekly if I can get that many).  So please email me if you're interested (even if you don't have your own blog).  Maybe I can even talk my friends or family members into posing for outfit photos for me. :-)
Next week I'll be recapping our Colorado road trip, and after that things will start looking a little different.

Thanks in advance for your feedback! :-)

A Windy Outfit

Thrifted Dress ($5); Old Navy Cardi ($11); Dress Barn Jeggings ($10); Connie Boots via Famous Footwear (clearance, $40)

Unfortunately, this is the only good photo we got of this outfit.  We decided to take photos on Lake Michigan and it was super cold and windy.  Not the smartest idea we've ever had...

Although, you really can't beat the scenery.  The lake is always beautiful, but I especially love it on a cloudy day.

Red White & Blue Stripes on Stripes

Old Navy Tee (clearance, $5); Thrifted Cardi; Thrifted Skirt ($3); Gap Outlet Flats ($20); Thrifted Belt ($2); Gifted Necklace

I was afraid this would look a bit too 4th of July, but I'm happy with how it turned out.  I wore this last week while getting organized and packed for our Colorado trip.

I'm pretty much convinced that these flats go with everything.  Definitely one of the best shoe purchases I've made in the last year.

Job searching is such a funny thing.  My husband is now on week 5 of the great search, and has had 2 phone calls, 1 interview, and 2 rejection letters (and unspoken rejection from the dozen other places he's applied).  Whenever we scout out a new area, we also look at possible places to rent if any of these applications actually result in a job.  It's can be rather emotionally draining, but has been a great reminder of the sovereignty of God in our circumstances.  What makes one job application result in an interview while another doesn't, we'll never know. :)

A Little Dotty

Thrifted Polka Dot Top ($1); Thrifted Cardi; Vintage Necklace from Grandma; Clarie's Earrings; Old Navy Jeans ($30); Payless Flats ($5)

I really liked the top half of this outfit, but not with jeans.  I think I'll try it again with a skirt soon.

I'm becoming less and less of a jeans fan.  Most of the time when I look back at photos of my jeans-based outfits, I really don't like them.  Oh well...this is why I blog. :)

No Free Stuff Friday today, as my husband and I decided to take a last minute road trip to Colorado! By the time you read this I'll be enjoying the company of my in-laws and the beautiful mountains.  See you next week! :)
