October in Review

October, how are you over and done already? Bye bye beautiful leaves, here's how it went down:

Buys:
October Buys
Modcloth Cardigan - Birthday Gift; Old Navy Dress and Top - Free with Gift Card; Claire's Earrings

October Buys
Amazon; Unpictured Purse from TJ Maxx ($18)
Total: $49

I didn't spend a whole lot this month. I did a huge closet clean out a few weeks ago and have been really focused on only bringing things in that I'll really use, as well as employing the 1 in, 1 out rule. It's working so far.

I won a gift card from Go Chic or Go Home last month and knew right away what I wanted to spend it on. This adorable dress that Fran recommended. It's super cute and I love it. The top has also already gotten a lot of wear. It's insanely comfortable and versatile.

I've also decided to institute a shopping ban from now until the end of the year. Headed into the holidays it feels like as good of a time as any to step back and just be thankful for what I have. Also, I need to save my spending money and redirect it towards Christmas presents. :-)

Last Minute Halloween Decor with Mod Podge

halloween with modpodge

So it's two days before Halloween and you have no decorations up. But you have some Mod Podge and a pumpkin. What to do, what to do...

I have a recipe for success that requires just three simple ingredients:

halloween with modpodge

1. Go to the grocery store and grab yourself a cute little pie pumpkin. While you're out, grab a sharpie, some glow in the dark Mod Podge, and a paint brush.

2. Draw a cute little face on your pumpkin. Or a cute little drawing. Up to you!

3. Once the sharpie is dry, give your Mod Podge a quick shake and apply it to the pumpkin. More coats gives it more of a glow! Best part is it only takes 20ish minutes to dry so you can get this done quickly. Mine had a nice, subtle glow after 3 coats. Hard to photograph though, so you'll have to trust me!

4. Embellish! I used some burlap ribbon and made a bow and created some leaves with Mod Podge clay mixed with paint. It's super easy to use - just mix it up in a bowl and use a paint brush to shape it on Mod Podge's silicon mat. Give it a few days to dry, and you have your own custom embellishments!

5. Step back and admire your adorable creation that took you less than an hour to put together.

Review: Aloe Vera Lipstick

aloe vera lipstick

I'm not real big on beauty products. Most days, I don't even bother with makeup, and when I do, it's typically a simple swipe of mascara, maybe some eyeliner and lip gloss if I'm feeling ambitious. I never, ever get so jazzed up about something that I feel the need to tell people.

Until this.

You've probably heard of the green lipstick that changes color based on your body temperature. Well, I'm here to tell you it's the real deal. I ordered this from amazon on a whim last week. It's $7 for a pack of 12 of them, which is way cheaper than buying a single one. So I figured if nothing else I could give them away as gifts in the future.

I've been so, so pleased with this lipstick. It morphs from a odd green color into a super natural and flattering color on your lips. And best of all, it doesn't even feel like lipstick. It's really light, and feels like chap stick, which is glorious. I hate the drying feel of a heavy lipstick.

This day it turned a nice rosy color. The day before when I was wearing it, it was a brighter pink.

This acts almost as more of a lip stain than a lipstick, so I'd highly recommend exfoliating your lips before wearing. You can do this many ways, but my favorite is to take a wet toothbrush and gently scrub.

Have you tried the green lipstick?

This is not a paid review. The green lipstick people don't even know I exist. I'm just a really happy camper.

The Wait is Over

draped top, leggings, over the knee boots
Modcloth Cardigan (here); Target Jeggings; Modcloth Boots (similar)

J bought this cardigan for me for my birthday almost a month ago. Unfortunately it was the wrong size so we had to send it back. A few days ago the new size came and I'm so happy with it! This top is insanely comfortable and looks great either zipped or unzipped. I can't wait to wear it to death this winter.

Escape

denim jacket, mustard scarf, grey sweater dress, brown boots
Levi's Jacket; Kohl's Scarf (similar); Old Navy Dress; Swapped Boots (similar)

Sometimes J and I just take a random weekend and skip town. It's so good for our mental health; we really need to do it more often. This past weekend we headed 2 hours north to Houghton Lake, Michigan. The fall colors were gorgeous, and although it was freezing, we had a great time.
